1. Multi-Loop Controller

When it comes to industrial processes, PID or Proportional-Integral-Derivative control is a key consideration. It’s a multi-loop feedback mechanism designed for applications requiring continuously modulated control. If your facility has several inputs and outputs that need to be controlled simultaneously, consider a device that provides fast proportional PID control.

Opt for digital controllers. Unlike an analog temperature controller, digital controllers offer accurate remote viewing, configuration, and control via digital communication links. They also have enhanced security features to make sure that only authorized personnel can access critical settings.

2. Input/Output Sensors

Choosing the appropriate sensors is critical to the performance of your temperature control system. They are responsible for detecting and generating a signal that alerts your personnel of any change in the temperature of an object, equipment, or environment. Complex processes with varying temperatures would require appropriate sensors.

3. Switching Device

Switching devices act as the interface between the main output from the controller and the heater to handle the required power. There are different methods to switch power, namely electromechanical relay, solid-state relay, and silicon-controlled rectifier. The output signal from the PID controller should match the input signal on your power controller.

4. Heater and/or Cooling Device

When temperatures exceed the limits, intervention is necessary. More often than not, a heater or forced cooling device is used to drive temperature change in response to commands from the controller. This is when an over temperature controller comes into play.
